Professional Photos!!

So I always take the standard photo, on the kitchen table or living room table with my point and shoot canon. And the pictures always look that way. HOWEVER I had a bride post some of the professional photos of the cake and cupcakes that I did for her wedding, and let me just say....WOW! It really makes a huge difference!

So Pretty! The Butterflies were white chocolate

The Stand was custom made by the brides mother

The Hydrangeas were gumpaste all hand made and painted to match the brides decor!

baby cupcakes

ok so today's post I"m going to walk you through the stuffed cupcake from start to finish.
I took my favorite white cupcake recipe and made a couple dozen.
Then I took a large tip, flipped it over and cored out the centers of the cupcakes.

It's summer time!!! And that means I have fresh raspberries! I whipped up some whip cream
Added some crushed raspberries a little sugar and Voila!!! raspberry cream filling!

Now I took the tip I used above to core out the centers, put it in a bag
filled the bag with the raspberry cream filling, and piped it into the holes.

Then I made a soft blue vanilla buttercream, and swirled the top of the cupcakes.
Added a few fondant stars. Cut out cupcake wrappers from some star paper I had.
(I got the wrapper stencil from skiptomylou.org, http://www.skiptomylou.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/CupcakeWrapper.pdf  )

Then I made a little gumpaste boy, gave him a snuggly blanket!
Everyone loved them! And they tasted amazing!!

It's wedding season!!!

I had two wedding cakes this past week. Both wedding cakes had enormous amounts of cupcakes involved! The first cake was a white cake with vanilla filling, with green hydrangeas and 150 white and chocolate cupcakes. The Bride LOVED it! I can't wait to see pictures of it from the day of, when they had it all set up!
The second cake was for an old friend, she had 300 mini cupcakes. The top cake was chocolate with chocolate gnache and strawberry shortcake. All the mini cupcakes had strawberry kiwi flavoring too! It was delish!

Toooo long!

Alrighty so this post is coming way to long since the last one. I've been so crazy busy with all sorts of things, not the least of them being cake making.
So I'm going to start with a few of my favorites. I was asked to create a T-Rex cake for a little boy. They wanted a character cake for the family dinner and then a 3D cake for the party. After much debating, a few moments of sheer terror, and at least one panic attack this is what I came up with.
The cake was white cake with grasshopper filling, I had so much fun airbrushing this cake! I gotta say I just love my airbrush. All in all I think it was definetly worth the effort!

It's a Bird.. no it's a plane!

I was asked to make a replica of a piper cub airplane for a 90th birthday. So I decided to take some pictures as I went through the process so you guys could see what it looks like :)

First I had to make a base for the cake. So we cut the shape of the plane 25inches long and 8 inches at the widest part.

Then I put on 6 cakes each were a 9x13, cut and shaped them to fit the base
when I was finished I covered the cake with Fondant, and airbrushed it to match the original plane.

And this is the finished piece!

Busy week!

This last week was a busy week for me. I had quite a few different cakes to make, and it was my birthday! However I didn't make my own birthday cake, my DH got me a Dairy Queen cake, mmmmmmmm it was delicious!

So I had an older lady from my church call me a couple weeks ago, asking if I made wedding cakes. I told the lady I did make cakes, and she started telling me what she was looking for. She wanted a carrot cake with cream cheese icing, square with fondant and royal icing, and mauve hydrangeas or white roses. After talking for a few minutes, I finally asked her, "who is this cake for?". She says to me, "my dear, it's for me! I'm getting married in a couple weeks."

Hahah oh dear! I think the cake turned out well, and once I realized it was for her, I made it a very classic traditional style wedding cake.

wedding cakes

As I get started this year, I'm really trying to focus on getting my business up and running now that we're all moved! So I"m putting in a kitchen and going to go big or go home...well actually I'll be home, so it's just go big!

My goal is to be doing 2-4 wedding cakes a month through the summer... lets see if I can accomplish this!

Above are a couple of the wedding cakes I've done....

Topsy Turvy

My neice turned 5 this summer and had an amazing Alice in Wonderland themed birthday party. So of course the cake had to be whimsical and a little crazy :) The cake looked amazing! Then we had some technical difficulties, the middle tier slid off the cake and smashed into the floor. So I quickly put a new middle tier together and the day was saved.... or so I thought. About an hour into the party the bottom tier EXPLODED!

Needless to say I learned my lesson, from now I'll cook all my own cakes :)

another Mary Kay

This was the first Mary Kay cake I did for my Sister

Mary Kay

So my sister is an amazing woman and has a million things going on in her life. One of the things she's involved with is being a Mary Kay consultant. So for her open houses she's asked me to make a few different cakes for her. This one was in the fall, the leaves are made of chocolate and the acorns are carmels

a Buggie Cake

My middle child turned 2 this last year and all she wanted for her birthday was a buggie cake. So I put this cute lil guy together. One of my favorite character cakes for sure!

another pic of the Ford

Another photo from the back

Ford vs Dodge

So I'm a Ford girl through and through! I think it started when I was about 16 and my dad bought a new burgundy Ford. I had just gotten my driving license and I wanted to go out with some friends... so I begged and pleaded and helped him clean out his out truck and finally he agreed to let me take it out.... it was a beauty! I loved how it handled, and how cool I felt in it, I also loved the stereo in it... anyways when I was approached to make a truck cake for a birthday I was ecstatic to see it was going to be a ford!

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Cake

A cake I made for another little one's first birthday

Lets start the timer again!

Wow! ok so it's been a year since I posted on here! And what a crazy year it has been. I had my third baby, we moved twice and my oldest started school!!

As well...so many new cakes! I tried some new techniques this year, as well my loving husband got me an airbrush for my birthday. As I continue forward I feel like each cake gets better than the last!
My sister brought me some pictures of jungle themed cakes like she like for my nephews 1st birthday! After some consideration she decided maybe she's better just get a character cake...
But my Nephew needed something amazing to celebrate his 1st birthday! So this is what I put together in the end. AND HE LOVED IT! He grabbe the one monkey right off the cake and shoved the whole thing in his mouth!
